Lesson number 33 affected me because whenever I'm working late on my art projects, I tend to have negative thoughts about myself if this is the right career path to continue with and would it be better if I actually was in an Art School instead of the school I'm in now. I tend to overthink a lot of negative thoughts and I'm always hard on myself and not treating myself with respect. I need to be grateful, confidant and love myself to continue this career path I'm choosing. I need to be confident of the decisions I make instead of questioning them; need to be confident of the work I put out and thank myself for pulling through it.

I'm gonna incorporate lesson number 5 within my work, going to expand my work with sketches and storyboards. Going to make a ton of work as possible to expand and learn new ideas for my project. I could even experiment on new ideas or styles with my work unless if I keep working every day on my project.

STORYBOARD FOR ANIMATION

  • The starting shot will be an angle of the subway tilted towards the middle of the camera. We get a look of the character far away then we get a closer look from the camera paneling from the tile walls.

  • The next shot will be of the character in the middle of the shot and behind him will be a billboard saying “TIME IS MONEY”; the character is behind money. Character movements are slouching, tired, and squinting towards the camera.

  • Third shot will be the character from behind facing forward after a while the character looks to his right and pauses

  • The fourth shot will be the opening hole from where the train is coming from, it's dark dirty and grey and garbage on the sides.

  • Fifth shot the character’s eyes looking towards the entrance blinks slowly one eye at a time then yawns.

  • The sixth shot camera backs up to get a torso look of the character and behind him is the billboard, after the character yawns he wipes off his face with his arm (coffee arm) also he reaches for his phone in his pocket left side and opens it (flip phone) and sees a message from his boss of saying “Are you set for your presentation today? Better not be late again.” Character replies back without us seeing it; cuts back to his phone saying “Failed to send” his comment was “Yeah” icon next to it !!!, he puts his phone back to his pocket.

  • The seventh shot will be of the character stretching then putting his arm on his hip and looking around with his head slowly and heavy

  • The eighth shot the character will be in the middle lifting his left arm upward in an angle and uses his other arm with coffee struggling to roll down his left sleeve to see his watch. Different shot behind the character looking at his watch.

  • The ninth shot will be a close up of the watch, the time is early in the morning and the second hand will be ticking each tick will be a different angle shot of the character's action like sitting in the middle of the floor, kneeling down head against the wall, standing somewhere, kneeling, feet hanging off the side

  • The tenth shot will be of the character sighing/bored than his phone rings from his pocket, it’s a call from his boss, the character realizes the time panics and answers the phone. The boss is asking where he is, the character is telling him he’s waiting for the train “The train is still not here, I’m so sorry I promise I’ll be there” Hello? Can you hear me? Helloo? For fuck sake please? HELLO? The boss hangs up.

  • The eleventh shot will be of the character freaking out wondering where the train is looking at the entrance. Next shot will be the same shot of the entrance dark

  • The twelve shot will of the character tapping on his foot and his hand waiting for the train each tap will have its own close-up shot then taps both of his hands quick then hard.

  • The thirteen shot will be the character screaming “COME ONNNN” adjusts himself from his collar (sweating) gets close to the edge and looks out after a few seconds of nothing the character kicks his coffee cup at the wall splattering. The character gets a call again from his boss “where the fuck are you?” the character replies back “LISTEN THE TRAIN IS STILL NOT HERE WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT? HUH, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?” as the character is talking towards the camera, behind him light appears from the entrance.

ART PROJECT

My project is going to be about a suicide issue. Around August, there was a post on the internet that motivated me to create this project and it was of Jim Carrey giving a speech to a University about fear and love. What Jim said in the ceremony that stuck with me was "You can fail at something you don't want so you might as well take a chance of doing what you love." I know some people are planning to have a safe job in their lives to get a good amount of money or to do what their parent wants to impress them, but jobs require a passion in order to maintain their jobs. For the people who don't take risks to find a job of what they're passion about are missing out a greater future for them. The software I'm going to incorporate within my project is Adobe Animate CC 2019, Maya, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019; also the animation is going to be 2D.

My work goes to a heavy topic of suicidal and depressive thoughts. My primary focus is on specific jobs that are causing depression. People who have high-paying jobs are not the happiest of what they have to do in their position like lawyers, scientists, doctors, and financial planners. Situations like those put a lot of pressure on the employees, and yet failure can push someone to the edge of ending their life or even damaging them.
While I use Adobe Animate CC 2019, Adobe Premiere, the process of creating and animating an animation takes a lot of planning with sketches, storyboards, sound designs, scripts, and researching. The style of the animation is 2 dimensional distorted, messy drawings. Also, the colors for the work are black and white to indicate that our world is not perfect. The animation is intense and emotional, it tells a story of an employee male waiting for his train at the subway to get to work. As time goes by, the male loses control of his emotions from being too late to work, and he ends his life by jumping off to an approaching train. I want people to feel the intensity of my character and the dramatic effect. I want people to understand that everyone can have a bad day. But, it doesn't mean that you're going to have a miserable life; you're in control of finding your own happiness.

CRITICISM FOR TIME

Two professors wanted the animation to be red towards the end when the character became anger.
-I think the animation is better off with black and white only; several students agreed as well; I'm opened with suggestions, though.
-Expectations from me
I wanted more criticism and more truthful opinions on my animation, what I'm looking for is, does this animation work? I also was looking for how the professors felt after the video was over. I was seeking more criticism than positive thoughts. I want to prove my animation skills and become better than before.

CANDY HEIST

Gallery

For this animation, I'm going to incorporate it with Maya and Adobe animate. I'm going to create the gas station and convert the file into a jpeg sequence as the background for my animation. The characters are going to be 2D and for the background, it's going to be from Maya. The appearance of this animation will be black, grey, and white. I will draw labels on the boxes such as candy and chips from Adobe Photoshop and import them to Maya to the objects. The challenge for this project is to make the 3D objects appear as 2D and hand-drawn.

Story:

It's a Halloween night and the story takes place at a gas station, there's an employee at the register bored out of his mind. All of a sudden two little "kids" (aliens) appear and confront the employee asking where the candy is, employee laughs at their props (guns) and their costumes. The kids show aggression and the employee showed the thieves where the candy is, as one of the kids is grabbing candy and the other kid has his gun pointed at the employee. The gunman was distracted and gets hit by a baseball bat from the employee knocking the gun out of his hand. The employee grabs the gun and starts shooting at the kids, the kid's retreat and heads outside. As the kids left the employee follows them and later founds them at the center of the road waiting then all of a sudden a giant UFO appears and sucks the kids into the ship and flies away leaving the employee confused. THE END

My first work goes to a heavy topic of suicidal and depressive thoughts.

My other work is not a big topic compare to the first one, but a silly animation is dealing with a robbery. The robbery takes place in a gas station on a Halloween night, and there are these two aliens in need of candy. One of the aliens messes up the plan causing them to flee.
With this animation, I used Maya as my background and incorporated 2d drawings from Adobe Animate for my work. The animation is ridiculous and original; I'm not done with my animation; it is still in the works.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The short animation of "Candy" is about two little aliens stealing candy at a gas station during a Halloween night. The robbery does not go well, and the aliens have to escape from the unplanned situation. The tricky part of this new animation is trying to come up with a moral. Or what's the point of the story? I have some morals that could fit in, which are, every citizen should bear arms meaning weapons, talking about small held weapons. Citizens need to defend themselves from any hostile activity.  Another moral is the existence of aliens; we should be aware that there's life out there in space who may not be friendly with us. The last moral would be, don't underestimate anyone; everyone has the potential to succeed. Also, judging and undervaluing a stranger could be a risk-taker because you don't know them or what they're fully capable of.
The short animation of "Happy Death Day" is an eight-second film that deals with a skull that's covered with cake and melts to the ground from an engulfing flame coming from the candle. The moral of this animation is every year, people celebrate their birthday as a positive thing, but for the upcoming years, people move closer to death as they age. At the start of the animation, the candle sparks with a flame that represents multiple symbolism, such as emotion, soul, and death. As the fire engulfs the candle, it represents all the emotions and of ourselves as we experience throughout our lives. But the flame at the same time signifies death, once the fire is taken out; the special spark indicating our soul has left our bodies. Also, as the cake melts from the heat, it represents our appearance changes. The reason why I created this animation was to see how detailed I could go in a short film also wanted to incorporate holidays in my work.
